If you’ve ever got a chance to get to know me then you know I have and always will always love Aubrey Drake Graham. Call it what you want and feel how you want about it lol, but IYKYK I don’t play about him. As they say the numbers don't lie but the music doesn't either. His music has been cultivating the soundtrack of my life since I was pretty much a pre-teen, so tell me why my overgrown self-had never been to one of his shows? Until this year I had never seen Drake in concert. So, let me tell you a little story about how God blessed me y’all!
Some people can vouch for me when I say this, but I actually spoke this tour into existence in 2022 and I told everybody that I was going even if I had to go by myself. Yes, it was that serious. Drake's last tour was seven years ago and if I didn’t make it to “Summer Sixteen” I was definitely going to this one. I even said I wanted to go to another city, so you know when the “It's All a Blur” announcement came out I was feeling real, That’s so Raven-Ish. It was giving real fans know real facts. The dates for the tour drop and Chicago is the first show. Now, I want y'all to know I love my city but the extra in me had already told myself that I wanted to be somewhere else for this concert, besides I always feel like the first show of a tour is never as hype as the show deeper into the tour.
Now, remember when I told you I didn’t care if I had to go by myself? Well turns out I didn’t have to. Around the same time this tour was just a thought in my mind I had met a Gem of a man and on top of having so many other things in common he’s an almost bigger Drake fan than me. “See how God knows what he be doing?” So, me and my Gem set sail to decide what city we were going to for this concert. The new plan was Vegas. In the midst of all of this, you know life be life (Ing) and Adulting still had to be done. I ended up getting a new job and during my two-month training I wouldn’t be able to miss a day at all. Now usually I don’t play about my freedom when it comes to these jobs lol, but I couldn’t mess this one up, so sadly Las Vegas was out of the question, and I had to rethink my trip. As I thought of another place, I would love to go to a concert of course Atlanta came up. The Atlanta show was a month away and by that time I would have been at my job for two months. The plan was to let them know I had a prior engagement and to deal with the repercussions that came with it. You know they have these point systems and rules set up during your first 90 days, well they were just going to have to point me. It was getting closer to the concert which meant the prices were going up and there was a little more adulting to do before the funds were funding the way they needed to, and those tickets were mine. Little did I know God had better plans.
I had already known that for my job we would have to fly to Dallas Texas for extensive training, the thing is we didn’t know the exact dates until about two weeks before the actual trip. Then the announcement came. My job informed us that we would be scheduled to go to Texas two weeks from then. Now you know I had already been studying those tour dates, but I just had to double check anyway and low and behold, I was going to be in Dallas the same time Drake would be performing in Houston! You can't tell me that right there wasn’t an alley oop from God. If you don’t know, Houston and Dallas are three hours away from each other and I would have to be up the next morning by 6 AM. The concert ended at 12 AM so you just do the math. Either way I was committed. And so it was, I landed in Dallas with my coworkers, and I was off to get ready and be picked up by my treacherous twin IYKYK a.k.a. My Gem. Did I mention he traveled to Texas the day before to meet me there? “Alexa, play BBL Love by Drake” lol. So, we took our three-hour journey and arrived in Houston. It was finally happening. I had manifested this, and the show was everything. The seats even turned out to be in section 126, can you believe it? It was definitely the highlight of my year, it all worked out. God knew I needed that win this year and it was my small piece of sunshine for 2023. After the three-hour ride and making it back to Dallas at almost 4 AM it definitely was all a blur lol and I would do it all over again. To You, this might seem like just a story of how I low-key irresponsibly went to see Drake lol but to me it’s a story about how I told God what I wanted, he heard me and ironically enough helped me make it happen in the most peculiar way, even if it was something as small as a Drake concert. You know the saying “If you want to make God laugh, tell him what you’ve got planned.” So, I know he got a kick out of this. From Vegas to Atlanta, I ended up at Drake in Houston and if you know anything about Drake and Houston, then you know that was one of the best shows of them all and if you don’t, well you just had to be there lol. I made it to my training on time and prepared and I got my first Drake experience with someone I love, who just so happens to be “an almost” bigger fan than me. A win is a win.
